If you worked with SVG sprite before, you would agree that it’s quite painful to create SVG sprites. There’re Gulp and Grunt tools for this task, however they require writing script and configuration, which are quite complicated for designers who are not code savvy. We’re lazy designers, we want something simpler. That’s why we created a SVG sprite generator.
The generator is very easy to install and we provide several options for you to work with SVG sprite. You can create the sprite from selected SVG, a specified folder or even CSV files.
The generator will wrap your SVG icons inside <symbol> tags and use file names as symbol IDs. You can embed the symbols in your HTML using SVG sprite or as web components.
Enjoy the generator and don’t forget to star it :)
Since we launched SmartIcons 6 weeks ago, we set out to build the best platform for designers and developers to work with icons. We’ve been working hard ever since to improve its quality and ease of use. Today marks a big milestone in our roadmap: SmartIcons 2.0 is here.
We locked ourselves in the room for a month (no kidding!) to develop SmartIcons’ Mac app. SmartIcons.app is a first-class menu bar app allows you to search, drag and drop icons into your favorite graphic editing tools. It supports virtually any graphic software on Mac: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch and Keynote.
The unification of web app and Mac app provides a seamless workflow: You can customize the icons in the web app then drop them into your designs and send them to clients in no time!
Our catalog is growing and we need a flexible way to explore the icons. We added categorization – the most requested feature by our users – to make it easier to browse all the icons. Our tagging dictionary was also rebuilt completely to improve the semanticity of our icon system and blur the line between visual and verbal languages. We want to build a icon system that inspires you; helps you spend less time picking icons and more time focusing on your creative work.
New icon set: Super
Designing small icons is hard because every single pixel matters. We take the challenge and design Super, a set of 600 beautiful icons based on the 16x16 pixel grid. In spite of the tiny size, all the icons are crafted with glorious details and sharpness. Super is our proudest work, go grab it and make your UI shine!
There are many other smaller improvements here and there. We will continue adding more icons and polishing all the features in the next few days. Stay tuned!

Introduce Glyph, an open source SVG icon setglyph.smarticons.co
At SmartIcons, we’re passionate about open source. We’ve been working hard to make our favorite free icon set Glyph more open and accessible and finally. The landing page is also on Github so you can play with the code and search the icons locally.
We’ve received tremendous feedback since we launched. We know that we’re on the right track to build a powerful tool for designers and developers to make working with icons a joy.
In the last few days, we’ve been working hard to improve the UI and add new features to shape SmartIcons.
A preset is a predefined style for each icon set. Each preset comes with a unique color scheme and gives you some initial ideas for your customization. You can tweak the preset and SmartIcons will save the styled icons automatically.
Along with many bug fixes, we also added a feature to allow you to add icons quickly from collection page. You just need to click on “Add icons” button to search and select icons conveniently.
